United Matters presentation for the UAL Alumni sustainability event

United Matters was invited to speak at the UAL Alumni sustainability network event. Me and another member of the collective went as representatives of the collective to give a presentation on our recent exhibitions at Dutch Design Week and London Design Festival. The event had in excess of 150 attendees and was rounded off with a half hour Q&A.

Exhibited at Craft Sustained - The HUB in Sleaford

I was honoured to be invited to show three separate projects at the Craft Sustained exhibition in Sleaford. The work was on show for 3 months and garnered over 8000 visitors. It was a privilege to be shown alongside such an amazing collection of other designers, each producing some truly inspirational work. My contributions included Polyhide, samples from Compost Atelier and a first look at some test tiles of Monera Wood.

The sparkling winners of this challenge created concepts with powerful messages. MA Material Futures winner, Sean T. Ross created the ‘Solar Forge’ to harness solar power through Swarovski Crystal to create new materials, “I wanted to create something obscure and beautiful, an artefact made unique by its method of production.”

In 2019 Swarovski's partnership with Central Saint Martins was taken to a new level with the launch of the Conscious Design programme. This video celebrates the programme-wide initiative that saw our students using upcycled Swarovski crystals innovatively in their work.

Artist and poet Wilson Oryema interviews MA Material Futures student Sean T. Ross about his project. Initially inspired by NASA's 3D printing lunar rover, Sean created a solar furnace that could harness the power of the sun to be used as a tool for material experimentation.
