Curating Verdant futures exhibition at D-Contemporary

D-Contemporary, a Mayfair based art gallery, enlisted my help to curate a climate based show to coincide with the release of a climate report for COP26. I was handed full creative control of the space for a ten day exhibition. To compliment the report, I selected works that addressed the key themes, covering material production, the water crisis, energy usage and sustainable financing.

The show brought together a mixture of people from the art and design world and business industries, fostering conversations that would have otherwise gone unspoken. When tackling events as large as the climate crisis it is imperative we have cross disciplinary conversations to give possible intervention the best chance of success. Exhibitions such as this one visualise complex topics in digestible ways and open up a dialogue that helps propagate out of the box solutions in real world contexts.

“To coincide with COP26, Verdant Futures, curated by Sean T Ross, explores how creative innovation can offer new solutions to combating the climate crisis. The exhibition presents five designers who have addressed key climate issues with the aim of a greener tomorrow.”

Graphic Design for the exhibition

Mud Monitor

The Mud Monitor is a 3 X 5 pixel screen displaying the number “1” and is powered by electrolytic earth batteries. The piece explores possible ways to develop digital hardware, in this case both displays and batteries, using non toxic and bio-compatible materials. I produced this piece specifically for the Verdant Fututres exhibition and it was inspired by some research I conducted as a part of Narratives of Soil, a project run in collaboration between Eliza Collin at the Malaysian based studio, Borneo Laboratory.
